Deb Fallows, an American journalist of Atlantic Monthly, visited Xi’datan Middle School in last Sep. he was surprised at the reward the school got in 2007 Cyber Fair and had great interest in China West Story project. In order to memorize his father- Frank Zerad, he decided to help four needy students in that school. He hoped the students could introduce their hometown to the world by making more web pages. This is a typical case of donating students in West China by Care West platform. In the past two years, as many as 4000 students got donation through the platform. Mr. Ted Wen, the director of Town and Talent Technologies (China) Co., Ltd, carries out the project “Stories of Western China” at the beginning of 2007. This project is to encourage students to observe customs in their hometown and interview local people in spare time, and then make these stories into web pages. 1000 students are supposed to participate in this program and 8000 web pages will be created. Mr. Ted Wen, who is the eldest son of Mr. Sayling Wen, declared to carry out the project “Stories of Western China” in the 5th Town & Talent Technologies Member Schools Conference in Dec, 2006.
This project is welcome by the present headmasters and teachers. They hope this activity can make students realize the importance of internet, improve students comprehensive abilities and also brings business opportunities to their hometowns.
The Care West platform aims at realizing the interaction between internet and society, helping financially-strapped students in western rural regions, encouraging communication between donors and beneficiary students, giving students spiritual aids and guidance, and motivating students to take part in social practice.
