It is rather puzzling why pandas eat bamboo as main food resource. The panda's digestive system is not designed to process plant matter and cannot easily break down the cellulose in bamboo, so the species must eat huge amounts - each day consuming between 12 and 38 kg of food, for up to 14 hours, stopping only to sleep or travel short distances. Bamboo is the most important plant in a giant panda's life. They spend at least 12 hours each day eating bamboo, because bamboo is so low in nutrients.
1) panda’s range (home)
The range of panda is rather small compared with other animals of the similar size. It is about 4 – 7 square kilometers per year, while the range of black bear reaches 30 square kilometers. They live in such a small place and consume relatively low amount of energy.
The males’range is about 6 – 7 square kilometers per year, and they go around just half of the area per month. While the females’range is about 4 – 5 square kilometers per year with one tenth of the area per month.
2) life style
Due to low energy of bamboo, the pandas spend all day on eating and resting. After they are full, they always sleep for a while in any place. And then, they continue to find their food.
