The blouses worn by the women are made of stripes of different colors, which are just like rainbows. That is why the county is also called the hometown of rainbow.

       Tu minority group has been a nomadic tribe, whose ancestors once established Tuguhun Kingdom in Gansu Province . In the middle of 7 th Century, after the decline of the kingdom, the people remained there. It took a very long time to form this minority group. There has also once been an important military site in the Yuan Dynasty. In the later half of 13 th Century, the national characteristics were formed. According to some recordings in the Ming and Qing Dynasty, Tu minority group has been formed at that time. Their economy has also been turned from stockbreeding to agriculture and handicraft.

       On February 17,1954, with the approval of the State Council of PRC, the first autonomous region – Huzhu Autonomous Region of Tu minority group- was established. In 1955, it became an autonomous county. On November 6, 1985, according to the lifestyles of the people, Minhe Autonomous County of Hui and Tu minority group was established, as well as Datong Autonomous County of Hui and Tu minority group. Until now, the people of Tu minority group accounts for 71% of the whole people.
