Bashan Bei'erge (Song of Bashan Back-carriers) is a folk song form born and popular in area under the jurisdiction of Bazhong City, which is at the southern foot of Mount Micang in northeastern Sichuan Province. In the past, the area was inaccessible, so all goods in and out of the mountain were carried by men. These men were called "Beilaoer" or "Bei'erge" (back-carriers), so the song they sang while taking a break during the journey got the name "Bashan Bei'erge". It is usually sung with a leading singer or in unison.

   As a kind of folk song, "Bashan Bei’erge" vividly reflects living conditions, labor scene and the inner world of carriers. The main forms are singing in break time, a person is singing with others. There is carrier tool and carrier song; there is carrier song which eliminates fatigue. The song is created by the laboring people engaged in cargo, huge team is singing in the long life way, learn from each other, is a spontaneous inheritance, due to the melody of carrier song is exquisite, it is widely sung in the folk. The lyrics of "Bei’erge" are structure of the seven word poetry. Except for the common function words, "The carrier song" also has other Bashan folks as substantive as word, and this is "one of the biggest characteristics of Bashan carrier song". If the carriers sing their own life, the lining words often only have "good friends", "love", this kind of lining words refer to greet each other; if sing love songs, the lining word is "Yin Mei", "love China" or "love man". "The carrier song" has high pitched singing melodious, to tramp over mountains and through ravines, through the clouds and fog at the end of the drill, have long sigh of a left cavity shortness of breath -- "Yeah hey!" As anthropologist, carriers are ordinary workers with high "intelligence" and "EQ". The things they see in life can be made of a song, even if it is oral improvisation, it is difficult that if scholars and writers want to modify their works.

   In the early 60, song and dance troupe of Chongqing City, Sichuan Province, and Sichuan Provincial People's art theatre artists went to Bazhong, had choreographed dance works "Bashan Bei’erge" and vocal "Bashan Bei’erge", the original "Bash Bei’erge" had been broadcasted on Sichuan TV and CCTV.
   In June 9, 2006, Barshan Bei’erge are listed in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage with the approval of the State Council.
