Why we chose Huayin Laoqiang

    Our school is located in Eastern Yuan area of Huayin city.Speaking of Huayin, what we are most familiar with is the Huashan Mountain that is a famous tourist scenic spot, but Huayin Laoqiang as a folk art that few people know about. Emanating from Huayin city Double Spring village, it got name “Double Spring”because two springs in the village, here is the authentic birthplace of Huayin Laoqiang.

    In people's minds, 1980s，1990s of last century Laoqiang puppets was comparatively welcomed, in village weddings and funerals can often see shadow puppet performances. As technology advancing, TV, network media goes into the general population, feast of the audio-visual show, so people can enjoy a variety of art and cultural programs without going out home, Laoqiang this ancient and simple bold and unconstrained style of folk art is gradually fading out of sight. In order not to let this precious folk art lost, inherit and develop the Huayin Laoqiang is we as a Huayin person obligatory responsibility.

    On November 13 of 2012, the 11 members of teachers and students got to Double Spring village, visited Huayin inheritor Zhang Ximin. In his house, we saw very rare performance photos, posters, honorable reward cups, stills and photos posing with famous artists in domestic and aboard and went to France to participate in performances, we have immense excitement and pride inside to have such a modest farmer artist.

Teacher Zhang talked a lot about the origin, development and current situation of Huayin Laoqiang, we sincerely feel the living bitterness as the folk artist. Zhang took out musical instrument to show us on site and introduced its function, at last he took out the precious Laoqiang plays which in periods of Qing dynasty, the Republic of China and also after liberation, from those yellow and repeatedly modified plays, we see Laoqiang artists generation after generation on art diligently pursuit and perserverance.

Speaking of inheritance and development of Huayin Laoqiang, the elderly is filled with regrets: As the "Huayin Laoqiang successor" and the " Laoqiang family ", he worries Laoqiang future. One hand, Laoqiang artists are most of common farmers who do not have fixed income, this "craft" difficultly maintain a basic standard of family life, they have to consider their own livelihoods, most of which is the main reason for young people not learn it. On the other hand, Laoqiang and modern popular music art in performance way have large differences in comparison, effected largely by people performing state and taste, it has no fixed beat, free play style, these features do not adapt to the popular stage performances art, according to teacher Zhang told, as this reason, Huayin Laoqiang cannot perform on Spring Festival Gala Evening, but in the whole country, regardless of town or city, whether in XI ' an or Beijing, Huayin Laoqiang is chased by audiences.
