Xidatan Middle School is a Tibetan Middle School，located at the Xidatan Township of Tianzhu Tibetan autonomous counties in Gansu, where conditions are rough.Schoolhouses are bungalows made of wood and brick . For money difficulties, parents hardly pay their childrent tuition fees, let alone buy extra-curriculum books. The students have no access to gain more knowledge due the difficulties and the insufficient books in the school. It is perhaps this kind of environment that inspires their great desire for knowledge, which cannot be understood by children living in big cities.

Note: The headmaster highlights the construction and utilization of the reading room which is regarded as the main place of absorbing knowledge and broadening minds for the students. Although the classrooms are insufficient, the headmaster particularly squeezes out one as reading room and allocated teachers to take care of it. The management of the books, as a key indicator of the teachers’ performance per year, is evaluated each term. The teachers, with little influence, have been trying their best to collect more books for the students through various channels; however these are still not enough to meet the needs.
