According to our plan, we go to interview Wang Yinji who is the example of the whole province of harnessing the sand.
　　We go to his home by car and it takes us an hour to reach there. His son tells us he is planting trees in the place where he harness the sand. Then we spend half an hour going to that place.
　　When we reach there, the vast desert comes into our sight first. This is the Gengger Desert. When we look into the distance from a high place, we see a lot of plants in the sand such as narrow-leaved oleasters and sacsaouls. All of them form a green sea. When Mr. Wang comes to us, Mr. Xu takes a photograph of him. When we tell him we want to interview him, he starts the introduction. He is 39 years old and a member of the Communist Party. His home is only two kilometers away from the desert. More than ten years ago, there were always sandstorms and wastelands everywhere. If he had gone out of the village to making a living, they could make their ends meet. However, as a native, he wanted to harness the sand to make all the people live a better life. On the Spring Festival of 1999, he and his father decided to harness the sand. His family members and he spared no efforts in harnessing the sand. They overcame a lot of difficulties such as the adverse circumstances in the desert and shortage of means of transportation. In order to plant more trees, they should even employ more than 20 workers to help them. But it is rather difficult to plant trees in the sand. A small field of trees would consume much time and energy. Some people persuade him to give up, but he does not. Through repeated trial in two years, his father and he find a good method. They sharpen the top of the wooden stick and use it to dig holes and then plant trees. He shows us the method and we dig several holes. The shortage of water in the desert makes the camels carry the water in nearly three hours. Afterwards, he digs a well and use it to store water. In order to improve the survival rate of the trees, he goes to observe in the winter. Two or three years later, most of his trees survive. His father and he take turns in taking care of the trees. In such an adverse circumstance, his father suffered from rheumarthritis and his younger son died in 2005 because of late treatment. He feels rather sad when he says this. The last words of his son is asking him to bury him in the place where he harnesses the sand. He wants to see the desert turns into the oasis. Mr. Wang tells us he wants to protect the environment and makes his contribution to the hometown.
　　When we listen to him, we cannot help respecting him. Facing the cruel reality, he has experienced a lot of difficulties, but he never gives up. Since 1999, he has planted more than four million trees. The water they have used amounts to more than 1000 tons. In the past six years, they have spent more than 140 thousand yuan harnessing the sand. The dunes are turning into the oasis.
　　Mr. Wang guides us to his dunes that have been planted with trees. We feel the spirit of him. When we stand on the dunes, we can see a lot of plants in the sand, all of which show the great vitality. At five o’clock in the afternoon, we have to say goodbye to him. On the way back, all of us talk about him and speak highly of him.
