Interview with Chinese Teacher Ma Yan
Students (S): Hello, Miss Ma. We are the team members to attend web design competition and want to collect some materials. May we ask you some questions?
Ma Yan (M): Ok.
S: why should the people build the Dujiangyan Project at that time?
M: Because there were floods and droughts every year before the building of the project, and people wanted to discharge the water and irrigate the farmlands. And the project brought a lot of benefits to the people.
S: How does the project get its name?
M: The ancient project was named after the location. This project was located in Du'an County in Qin and Han Dynasty, so it was called "Du'anyan". The name "Dujiangyan"was used after the Southern Song Dynasty.
Interview with History Teacher Ren Suqun
S: Hello, Miss Ren. We are the team members to attend web design competition. Can we ask you some questions about the Dujiangyan Project?
R: Certainly.
S: We know that the project was built by Li Bing and his son. Would you like to give us an introduction of the differents parts of the project and why is the project ingenious?
R: There are three major parts: bottleneck - bringing in of the water, fish mouth - discharge of the water and Feisha Dyke - irrigation of the farmlands. And what is ingeniously is that these three parts coordinate with each other, fulfilling the tasks of discharge of the water and irrigation of the farmlands, so it was a wonder in the ancient world.
Interview with Vice Director of Moral Culture Office Jia Zhengyuan
S: Hello, Miss Jia. We are the team members to attend web design competition. Can we ask you some questions about the Dujiangyan Project?
J: Ok.
S: Why should the people use bamboo cages filled with pebbles in the project?
J: According to what I have learned from some materials, people at first threw big stones into the river, but the water washed the stones away. Afterwards, Li Bing found that bamboo was rich in this area and people usually used bamboo to build their houses, so he wanted to have a try. He asked people to make a lot of big bamboo cages filled with pebbles and put these cages into the river. It was found that the cages could stay in the river steadily and the project was built by this method. |
