Located in the northeast of Wuwei and the south of Tengger Desert, the center is mainly on the research of protection and breeding of endangered species and the harnessing of the desert. In November 1994, the zoo of wild animals was established by the approval of the former Ministry of Forestry. In 2005, a development area of sand industry was built in the cooperation with Qian Xuesen Sand Industry Center Laboratory.

 

　　 When we come into the center, the tall trees on the either side welcome us. You would not believe there was such a wonderland in the desert if you had never been there. In the exhibition hall, factory, zoo of wild animals, the scenery is quite different from that in the desert. Everywhere is the beautiful scenery. The visitors enjoy themselves there and take a lot of photographs.

 

In the past two decades, all the researchers in the center have been sparing no efforts in harnessing the sand. Now, the center has become a window to show the achievements in protecting endangered species and become a model area of harnessing the sand in the west and even in the whole country. In the previous year, the whole area harnessed amounts to 733.2 hectares including more than 2000 trees of various kinds and grasslands of nearly 4000 square kilometers. More trees have been planted and make the area live up to its name oasis.

 

Another spot which should be noted is the artificial lake with the area of 500 mu. It brings a kind of mobile beauty such as the trees by the lake and the fish swimming in the lake. The center also copies some famous spots around the lake such as the bridge over the Yellow River in Lanzhou. When we come here, we feel as if we was in the picture.

 

This is also the paradise of animals. The center copies the natural environment to provide animals conditions of living in outdoors. The naive wild camels are walking leisurely on the dunes. The antelopes are actively jumping on the grassland. With the principle of protecting environment and saving endangered species, the center has launched a series of researches on the breeding of animals in the past half of the year. Now, there are 53 kinds of animals in the center including animals under state protection. An exhibition museum of specimen has also built where there are more than 800 specimens of of animals and plants.
