Walls of rammed earth cover an area of 40,666 square meters. There are 32 arrow mounds around the four sides of wall, which are 40 meters from south to north. Each of the arrow mound is 16 meters wide, and a 9 × 9 meters square top. It has been preserved and maintained three times. There are two city gates. The north is called Nanqi Gate, with the city gate tower on the top, and the south gate is called Peach Gate, with the city gate tower on the east. Outside each city gate there is a barbican entrance to a city. Outside of walls is the city moat, 5 meters deep and 10.7 meters wide. In 1958, to broaden the inside and outside ways, the south gate of ancient city and its gate tower were broken down. So beside the south, the other three are well preserved. The old Guide County has over 600 years of history, and it is the historical witness of the ancient county. It also means that in more than six hundred years no big earthquake happened there. It rained less and its climate was dry, clay was made by hitting and tampering, so that the solid quality was hard which could hold the denudation loss through long time. |
