Auspicious Place
The Auspicious Palace is the temporary imperial palace for Dalai and Panchen. It is a Tibetan building located at the highest place of the temple, i.e., on the hillside at northwest corner of the Grand Golden Tiled Hall. It was built in the 7th year under the reign of Emperor Shunzhi in Qing Dynasty (1650). In the 9th year under the reign of Emperor Shunzhi, Dalai V once lived here on his way to the capital city. In the 42th year under the reign of Emperor Kangxi (1703) the palace was reconstructed into a quadrangle courtyard. In the 42th year under the reign of Emperor Qianlong (1777), the Qing imperial government granted the temple money and copper statues as well as sent craftsmen to build the Auspicious Palace and its archway and front gate. The palace was destroyed by a fire in the 14th year under the reign of Emperor Jiaqing (1809) and rebuilt in the 18th year under the reign of the same emperor, with 33 Buddha statues including 16 arhats in it. |
