Murals
——Painting in cloth legend
Ta’er Temple is an ancient Buddhist temple. The strong religious consciousness runs through every picture just like a red thread, reflecting the viewpoint of fatalism. The pictures are expressed in the form of fables, most of which are classical illustrations. From the expression of figures, you can tell their characteristics such as goodness, evil, brutality, sadness, anger, grace and hideousness. And the landscape, flowers, grass, birds and animals in fresco and relief have together created some wonderful fairylands.
The brilliance of frescoes lies not only in exquisite and simple style, delicate and smooth lines, vivid characters, smooth and unfurling images, but also in its rich and bright colors. They are created with a kind of pigment made of natural minerals and animal bile, which makes the frescoes look like a beautiful young girl and show no effects of aging even they have been there for more than 400 years.
