By introducing high technology abroad, they have built more than ten agricultural model areas. All of these achievements have formed a network to save water whose amount has reached 100 million cubic meters per year.
2. attaching great importance to the technologies
Planting of trees and harnessing of sand have been done for a very long time. Especially since West Development started, in several projects, the technologies have been playing more and more important roles in making plans, guaranteeing quality and accelerating the projects. Some green belts have been formed in the margin of the oasis. The sand has been controlled and the ecological environment has been greatly improved. Minqin County has been awarded several times by provincial government, Ministry of Forestry and central government on their achievements in harnessing the sand.
3. building more bases of plants in the sand
Due to the dry environment and sandstorm, there is shortage of water and plants in our city. The plants suitable to grow in this area are Chinese tamarisks, Chinese oleasters and sacsaouls. Therefore, more bases of these plants should be built. More good seeds are needed in harnessing the sand in Shiyang River valley. Since the mid 1990s, the bases of more than one thousand mu have been built with the annual amount of 100 thousand trees, which lays a solid foundation for the construction of these ecological projects.
4. applying practical technologies
The following methods have been spread in harnessing the sand for a very long time.

Method of protecting of the plants. The plants should be enclosed or semienclosed by building some railings or bars. The protective system should be improved to make these plants grow naturally.
