Row Origin

We
looked for many books for the origin of the lamp row, but we failed.
So we change our view sight to culture museum which is in charge of
the lamp row. By one occasional chance, we heard that Dangyonghong,
the teacher from Huangyuan county culture museum will come to our
school. We take this chance to interview with him to know its
origin.
The origin can be traced back to the
period of Qing jiaqing and daoguang emperor ruling. At A.D.
1796—1850, as the national trading is at peak, many traders from
inner land gathered at the Dan Ger to set up the business,. All the
shop put the candles inside the signboard and hang at the gate,
lighting at night to attract the customers. It looks exquisite.
Further, it beome more and mrore delicate
and finally to the lam row
with foundation, design and various shapes. Then, the shop owner
uniquely change the lamp row to the large size crossing the street.
Its frame must be the superior
wood with delicate craving in various shape, such as
rectangle, saddle, fan etc, which is always 2m in length, 0.6m in height and
0.4 in depth with 5—6 boxes with a design at both front and back.
The design can be selected from the historic characters , moral to
natural scenery which is related and lightened by candle inside.
From this, Dan Ger’s night was shined by the delicate and vivid lamp
row hung by the street. Many customers are attracted and the
business gets prosperous. This convention continue to period of the
end qing dynasty. The lamp row are invested and supported by the
local business and fire god, which is shown during the annual
lantern festival. It attracts thousands of the visitors. |
