There goes a line of qing tian duan mai in chinese poetry which was originated from the folk legend of cutting
sengsin by the Liuji , an official at the early stage of Ming dynasty . Liuji who was also called Liu Bowen was people in Tian Town , Zhejiang with a knowledgable talent , doing well in astronymy , geography and local xengsin . To solidify the prosperity of Ming dynasty when he assisted emporer Zhu Yaunzhang , he visited around the country and found 24 places which were rich in sengsin that must bu cut , or another emporers would show up in these places to replace Zhu Yuanzhang . Based on his observation , Meici mountain was the strongest sengsin place among these 24 as it looked like a giant dragon in shape with the second largest river Yellow river nearby because it was said that after the dragon had drunk yellow river water , there would be an emporer here . Therefore , Liuji ordered people to dig the mountainside to cut it . More strangely , it could not be cut as the dug part would grow back at nights . Later , someone said that there was a monster looking like a white dog running to this mountain and gloden lights had been seen and oxen uttering sounds had been heard . Someone reported this situation to the magistrate and many people talked about it . Some said that there was a golden ox which was the guradian of sengsin , therefore , golden ox must be taken away if people wanted to cut the sengsin . As a consequence , the magistrate and residents working for digging set an altar on the mountain to worship Nanhai avalolitesvara to protect the prosperous Ming dynasty . Finally , Nanhai avalolitesvara was moved by people’s sincerety and took away the golden ox , thus benefiting the cutting of sengsin . This was known by the imperial court and in order to show their appreciation , people from the court ordered magistrate to build a Nanhai avalolitesvara Temple with the statue of Nanhai avalolitesvara in it . It was called Nanhai Temple briefly later .
